mystery

I have this love for taking back profile shots...I don't know why! I feel it leaves the story with so much of mystery, which I love to keep solving every time.
I took this shot in the evening as I saw these ladies collecting water and going back to their homes. Their homes are located a little bit away form the mountain that I had recently posted. These are the same ladies who come to our houses every day in the morning and help us clean our places...as probably, we aren't too sure if we can do that ourselves!

I'm sure I would want to document a film on these ladies and what they feel...I've always wondered that ever since as a kid, I had heard stories of my maid and her drunkard husband who used to beat her up every now and then...who got his daughter married away when she was 14. Both, my maid's husband and a few years later her daughter's husband died...I don't know how...nor do I want to know. But what I do remember is that both were happy with their deaths. These are faint memories that I remember...and, probably for a second when I saw these 3 ladies going back today, I remembered the same story. Its a typical film plot, but it happens! Each house in this city has at least one such story of such people which enter our houses early in the morning, but we hardly realize it.

They are going back home after a day full of work...and who knows what the second chapter to the day's story has for them when they reach home! We speak about independence and individuality...I feel they know the meaning well...just that they need to realize it a bit better. How I wish they could as had it been so, their puzzles would've been much simpler. But, I guess we're always expecting and waiting for the circle to complete...will it, someday?

For the mystery that they leave behind as they keep walking ahead...

I love this photo. These ladies may well be on their way home after a long day of hard work, but their backs are perfectly straight. They look quite elegant to me. Two of them are wearing the exact same bright red dress, but it doesn't look like a uniform.
Your story reminds me of a woman I met at the home of the people I stayed with in Bombay. Lal (the homeowner) always tried to help people help themselves (if a young boy begged him for money, he would try to provide him with a way to earn some himself, like by buying him a shoeshine kit, for example). There was an older woman who came to the house to clean, and it had taken Lal a very long time to convince her to work for him, because she was a Dalit (even Bhangi) and he was historically from a very high caste. She kept herself in a low place because that's all she had ever known. The first time she came in and saw me sleeping, she had to be stopped from leaving. Apparently, she'd never seen anyone with very pale skin and it frightened her. She never could be convinced to touch me, though.

Alexa,

To be very honest...now a days I look forward to your comments!:) do keep writing..:)

Well, yea, I'm sure this isn't their uniform!:-D Well trust me, these ladies are more efficient and fit than any of us! The amount of energy that we have would not even be half of theirs as far as doing work goes.

I can totally understand your story...something similar happened at a friend's place too when he got married to an American and they had come down to stay here for a bit.

Well, some things have just remained for a long time...hopefully, they'll change...someday!:)

:)

Thanks, Rahul! ;-)
You know, there's a very good reason why the women have the babies. Contrary to what many people (all of them men) think, we ARE the stronger sex. I have a feeling you've already figured that out.
And the change you hope is coming someday? Me, too -- and soon, I hope.

You guessed it right!:)
Women are surely way stronger than men! Men try and be the dudes...but are actually emotionally WEAK!!:)

I keep telling all my friends one major principle of life...shall share it with you too -

"all men are bas***ds...and all women are complex"!!!;-)

more soon...:)

The reason why they walk so straight is because if they are not really straight with their neck upright, they will not be able to balance the container of water in their heads the way they do.

Rahul
This photo reminds me of a time when I was about 10 and I lived in an area of Brazil where we constantly had shortage of water. The only drinking water we had came from the only artesian well whoch was about 20 minutes walking from my house. I used to walk like this...
