This shot was taken by Maithili today, as she was flying kites with the 'Welingkar Gang'!!
The whole city is flying kites today celebrating Makar Sankranti!

This is a festival that signifies the beginning of the harvest season for the farmers in India. Makara Sankranti has special geo-agri-economical significance to people of Indian Sub-Continent. Makara Sankaranti is about transition of Sun into Capricorn on its celestial path. This is significant considering the winter solstice marks the beginning of the gradual increase of the duration of the day. Traditionally, this has been one of many harvest days.

Flying kites is an important part of the festival. People offer thousands of their colorful oblations to the Sun in the form of beautiful kites. The act stands as a metaphor for reaching to their beloved God, the one who represents the best. On this day, we believe that we're just a thread away from the one above...

For the threads joining the knots...

PS - Hardik, sorry for posting you without informing!!;-) Happy Makar Sankranti to all!!:)

I would like to see a photo of all those kites flying high. What a lovely thought: being a thread away from the one above or the ones we love!

P.S. I saw many dolphins frolicking in the ocean today. It was amazing and beautiful to watch.
